This month, my dad turns seventy.

In recent years, one of his quiet and steadfast projects has been the planting and tending of hundreds of young oak trees on his land in Kansas. Season after season, he digs, waters, prunes, and watches over them, a patient caretaker of futures he will never see fully grown.

Oak trees are what ecologists call “keystone species.” They are home and shelter, food and refuge, supporting entire worlds of birds, insects, fungi, and life unseen. To plant an oak is to believe in tomorrow.

So this month’s wallpaper is a wreath of oak leaves and acorns - a little tribute to tending roots for others and quiet strength that grows slowly over generations..
