This summer I'm serving as the Artist in Residence at Centennial Village in Greeley, a living history museum made up of historic buildings that were carefully moved from around the region to create a peaceful little village where their stories can continue to be told.

My studio is tucked inside what was once known as Selma's Store, a charming little building from the 1870s. It's quiet (and thankfully, well air-conditioned!), and I feel incredibly lucky to spend afternoons creating art within its walls. As I work, I have been finding myself wondering about the people who came before me. Who baked bread in the tiny kitchen? Who swept these floors at the end of a long day? Were there children who whispered to one another beneath handmade quilts long after they were supposed to be asleep?

History often feels like a patchwork quilt to me. Each square holds a story. Together they become something larger than any one person could create alone.

As I've been imagining the lives that unfolded in this little building, I've been painting a sampler quilt. So here is a bold quilt design as this month’s wallpaper for your phone/computer.
