Happy July 1st!

As a kid, today was always the start of something magical—our family firework stand in Lyons, Kansas. It was a multi-generational tradition run from my grandparents’ driveway, where my mom and her sister had first sold fireworks back in high school. We called it The Gazebo—a colorful hexagonal booth that my mom helped build and paint as a teenager.

From July 1st through the 4th, we’d spend long, hot days inside that little stand with box fans humming, sipping cold Pepsi, and breathing in the unmistakable scent of blackjacks and smoke bombs. Fireworks carry a particular kind of nostalgia for me—equal parts sparkle and sweat, anticipation and memory.

This month’s free desktop wallpaper is a nod to those nights: a vast, dreamy evening sky inspired by a study from the Met’s public domain collection, with tiny distant fireworks and stars scattered across the horizon. A quiet celebration.

I hope your July skies are full of color, wonder, and twinkling light.
